Algeria: a tale of oil and
citrus

In Algeria, considerable
work has been undertaken to develop new oil-producing and citrus plantations,
leading to the installation of a multitude of small units throughout
the country.
AGRISER,
a company with which FILCLAIR has established a true distribution partnership,
has succeeded in positioning itself on these development projects, by making
the brand a reference amongst local and foreign competition.
The
national agricultural development fund set up a farming program for oil
and citrus fruit. FILCLAIR/AGRISER has set up many nurseries in Algeria
within the scope of this program, based on a complete turnkey installation
comprising four operational modules:
1. 76 m2 of multispan greenhouses dedicated to propagation
and including a broad range of options: vents on openings, cooling system,
thermal and shade screens, tables for growing cuttings, hot-water heating
and mist systems.
2. Four heated TUNNEL greenhouses of 400 m2 each for
growing in pots and developing the plants, with ventilation by means of
spacers.
3. 400 m2 of shade houses to acclimatise the young plants.
4. Last stage in the cycle: open-field plantation.

Two-thirds of these projects, supported by the Algerian government, have
been carried out to date. There are therefore still two years (until the
end of 2004) to equip the remaining third. Other achievements are worth
mentioning, such as the production of vines in a controlled environment
recognised for its severity, or the installation on a market gardener’s
premises in the Sidi Bel Abbes area of a hectare and a half of 9.60 m
multispan greenhouses (3 blocks of 4 900 m2) equipped with shade screens,
heating, irrigation and insect proof system, which make it one of the
most modern in the country.
Apart from its 40 years’ experience, the AGRISER/FILCLAIR
duo holds several trump cards in Algeria, primarily a real technological
advantage relative to local competition, which, beyond a simple tunnel,
cannot offer such an extensive range of greenhouse types and the corresponding
optional equipment.
