In
1975, André Martin joined Filclair as a sales representative for
North-East France. Today, after an active career in the Mediterranean
region, he is Export Project Manager.
Below he tells us about one of the world's leading carnation breeders.

FI: Barberet & Blanc is one of the largest carnation breeders in the world.
AM: Initially French, the company was created in Cap d'Antibes, and
named after its two French founding members. It then became Spanish,
and recently joined a Japanese group, though the head office has
remained in Spain.
FI: Filclair - Barberet & Blanc sounds like a long story.
AM : There have certainly been a lot of ups and downs, but today
everything is fine. The story began in 1991-1992 when Barberet &
Blanc was Filclair's leading market for stock plant greenhouses.
FI: Could you please explain what a stock plant greenhouse is used for?
AM: A stock plant greenhouse is in fact a kind of laboratory where
different varieties of carnations are created with cuttings. The
cuttings are then transplanted in seedling greenhouses and sold to
producers.
FI: How did this collaboration start?
AM: We started working together in 1991-1992 when Filclair installed
slightly more than a hectare (2.5 acres) of stock plant greenhouses for
Barberet & Blanc.
Three Multichapelle Super 9 greenhouses were put up, fitted with all
the latest features: double inflatable walls, cooling system, thermal
screens and ridge vent panels. Barberet & Blanc wanted to replace
all their conventional Parral greenhouses by Filclair technology, but
the Parral products could not integrate all these features.
The next episode saw us lose the market to a Spanish contender
practicing very competitive prices. In the third episode in 2000, we
won back the market thanks to our technology.
